On Sunday, September 10th, our church was filled to capacity with people fleeing from Hurricane Irma. Many of the evacuees at our church were from the Tampa area of Florida in addition to other areas of the Southeast. Church members hosted people in their homes and businesses and others stayed at the church for several days waiting for the storm to pass. The local YMCA and other gyms were kind enough to allow people to use their shower facilities.
After the worship service on Sunday our church fed everyone a wonderful lunch. This was a great time of fellowship as we got the opportunity to meet many new people. The level of care and compassion from Horizon Church members was really amazing. When others are hurting the church should be a safe place for people to find shelter and receive compassion. It was an honor for us to be able to help in a small way to bring hope to other people in the kingdom of God.
