Our Core Values
The following values are important to us as a community of believers. We are passionate about following Jesus with all of our heart and being an example of his love and grace to the world.
1. We value our relationship with God through faith in His Son, Jesus.
We believe that although Jesus was crucified and buried, He rose from the dead and lives today in the hearts of believers. Without a personal relationship with Jesus, Christianity has no meaning or value at all. However, we believe that Jesus longs for a passionate relationship with His followers and we strive to draw near to God through worship, prayer, reading His word and serving others.
1 John 4:9-10
2. We value the authority of the word of God.
We believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God and our only rule for faith and conduct. The foundation of all that we teach and do is God’s Word.
2 Timothy 3:14-17, Matthew 24:35
3. We value the power of prayer.
As God’s people, we have seen first hand how the power of prayer is able to effect change in people, churches and nations. Without the priority of prayer, our church will never be effective in the work the Lord has for us to do.
James 5:16, Matthew 18:19-20
4. We value the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.
Our Pentecostal heritage dates back to the book of Acts when God poured out His power on the disciples and baptized them with the Holy Spirit. The disciples began to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit and performed great miracles and wonders. That same power is available today for all who will accept it. We believe and can testify that God still empowers believers and performs miracles today.
Acts 2:1-4, Acts 5:12
5. We value building relationships through unconditional acceptance.
The Bible tells us that Jesus has accepted us all without regard to race, gender or social status. In the same way, we believe that every person deserves the right to come to church without being prejudged. It is our goal to provide an atmosphere of love and acceptance that mirrors the love and acceptance that God extends to all of us.
Acts 10:34-35
6. We value our responsibility to our community.
Horizon Church has been placed in this community for a purpose. We take seriously the charge God has given us to be a source of spiritual light to those who live around us. It is also important to us to live above reproach so that the character of Christ can be seen through our actions. In addition to serving our local community, we feel compelled to reach the world through missions and humanitarian efforts.
Matthew 5:14-16, 2 Corinthians 6:3
7. We value creativity and innovation in ministry.
Just a quick look around you in nature will certainly prove that our God is a creative God. While we are not opposed to the traditions of our faith that are effective, we also believe that creativity and innovation are important. This keeps our faith vibrant and fresh instead of going stale. At Horizon Church, we aren’t afraid to try a new approach to worship or ministry as long as it is biblical and helps us reach our community in a culturally relevant way. We find in scripture that Paul was unafraid to use unconventional means. In Athens, he used a statue to an unknown god and secular poetry to lead people to an understanding of Jesus.
Acts 17:23, 1 Corinthians 9:22-23
