One of the things we love about Christmas is the decoration of lights that brightens up most neighborhoods this time of year. One of the early adopters of lights on a Christmas tree was Martin Luther who used candles on a Christmas tree to teach his children about the star that led the wise men to Jesus. It is appropriate that God used a bright light to lead people to Jesus who is the light of the world. Throughout the bible, light and darkness are seen as metaphors for good and evil. Christmas is a time to celebrate the coming of the savior who brought light into darkness and overcame the darkness by giving his life for the world. As we approach Christmas this year, we will reflect on the stories of darkness and light in the scriptures and see how God is still bringing light to us today.
