Convoy of Hope Serves Birmingham

With so many people out of work and dealing with loss of income, there are many who desperately need help with food and other resources. Convoy of Hope has always been a source of relief for those struggling in times of crisis and now they have come to Birmingham to offer a helping hand. For many years our church has supported this great humanitarian arm of the Assemblies of God by sending thousands of dollars for emergency relief. From hurricanes to earthquakes, Convoy of Hope has been one of the first organizations on the scene to offer assistance.

Now they have come to Birmingham to provide food for those who are struggling and need help. Distribution took place at the Springville Camp and Conference Center on Friday, March 24th, where volunteers loaded up trucks and trailers from various churches in the area who then took these supplies to places of need. After pastor Joe and Janet picked up a truckload of food, several volunteers met at the church to organize the supplies which were then loaded on to the bus.

The next day volunteers met at Cooper Green Homes where food was given out. Lillian Stamps, the Ross Coordinator for the Birmingham Housing Authority made arrangements for our church to give food to those who needed the help. Church volunteers loaded up cars as they drove through the parking lot. Those who received the food were so grateful for the generous help. In all, we were able to help more than 20 families who were in need of assistance.

This is just one more way that Horizon Church is bringing hope to our community in difficult times. We could not have done this without the generous support of Convoy of Hope and the many churches that support this great ministry. Thanks also to the volunteers from Horizon Church who gave their time to sort and distribute the supplies and for Lillian Stamps for organizing the event.

Let’s continue to be salt and light in our community and share the love of Jesus to everyone we can!
